Using Electronic Cigarettes over Conventional Cigarettes

The Food and Drug Administration has joined with other organizations in declaring the potential health risks of electronic cigarettes, or ecigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are sold online and in some shops, and offer a "healthier" alternative to smoking by eliminating the thousands of chemicals in conventional tobacco cigarettes and converting the highly addictive narcotic nicotine into steam, which is then inhaled by the smoker. With these devices the user still takes in a high amount of nicotine that can still be unhealthy to the body.

The electronic cigarette is heated by e-cigarette atomizers, and one of the major health concerns is that there are unknown chemicals used when this heating process takes place. In fact, many organizations are urging that more research be done regarding the heating process alone of electronic cigarettes, as there are currently unknowns regarding what the chemicals inside the cigarette actually do to the human body when heated. Because of this factor, consumers have no way of knowing if what they are inhaling is truly a healthier option or not.

The Food and Drug Administration, along with others, is concerned about the effect of electronic cigarettes on children. Because they are often flavored with e-juice, the addiction and hook can be greater because they are more enticing. It is also unknown what the chemicals that make up the flavoring of the cigarette can do to the body when heated and inhaled. In any case, the flavoring of the electronic cigarette, coupled with its innocuous presentation as "safer" could lead young people to try other nicotine products, and even start smoking conventional tobacco products, which have been proven to cause cancer, low birth weight, and other serious health issues.

There have also been leaks associated with this device. This means that people who do not even use these devices can be affected by them. Nicotine, in its pure form, is poison that can kill instantly. A leak could lead to devastative accidents that a person will have to live with.

As it stands, there is no safe way to dispose of these devices or cartridges. This leads to further health risks for the public as the electronic cigarettes continue to leak after they have been discarded. Adding this element to already toxic landfills is a fundamental public health risk. Even though there will be less hazards for you they can affect those around you. At the end of the day the choice is up to you.
